What Makes Your Heart Sing?

Exploring the Joys That Ignite Your Soul

I invite you for just a moment, to imagine you're blissfully happy and feeling true joy...free and light of all cares and worry, by asking yourself, "What Makes Your Heart Sing?" Just as Og Mandino, best reminds us:

"Realize that true happiness lies within you. Waste no time and effort searching for peace and contentment and joy in the world outside. Remember that there is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving. Reach out. share. Smile. Hug. Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself."

To tap into your own happiness, by allowing yourself about 10 minutes or so to reflect on the following exercise. You won't want to analyze this too much, just write down whatever pops into your mind. If you keep a journal or notebook, you may want to write your thoughts in there so you can add ideas to your list in the days and weeks ahead.

What Are Your Top 10 Joys in Life?

This simple inquiry alows you to get in touch with what truly gives you joy. You might think back to your childhood to remember those things that made you happy. For me, it was making daisy chains in the park, jumping rope, or reading my favorite Nancy Drew books.

Or, imagine what brings you happiness using each of the five senses: sight, hearing, touch, feeling, and taste. Perhaps the smell of coffee in the morning, the touch of a baby, or the taste and texture of your favorite food brings you joy.

Now, answer the question, "What are my Top 10 Joys in Life? What Makes My Heart Sing? List 1-10I on a page in your journal or notebook.

Follow Up

I wonder what you'll notice as you look over your list. What common themes, powerful messages or surprises can you see? Do you do them often? Why or why not?

Perhaps you are already imagining ways you can bring some of your ideas into your life now.

What specific action will you take this week to bring more joy into your life?
