Love Your Job, Live Your Passion

Updated: Oct 19, 2021

Some people know from very early in their lives what they want to do in life, while others search many years without answers. If you find yourself more like the latter example, it's time to roll up your sleeves and discover your inner dreams and desires. Everyone has the potential to realize their passion, it just takes persistence and being open to new discoveries.

Here are 3 tips to get you started...

1) Create a Dream List: Start a list of things you want to experience in your life just for the fun of it. Look through magazines, movies, books, etc. to get ideas. Include things you want to learn, people you admire, view various Pinterest pages. Items on your list can be big or small. Once you've listed over 50 items, read your list out loud or to a friend. Notice which items give you energy, excite you...mark these items as they offer a clue to your inner passion.

What job/career can connect with your passion?

2) Solving World Problems: If you could solve one world problem what would it be? Perhaps you care deeply about animals, the environment, health, hunger, etc. What lies behind your interest in this problem? For example, if you chose animals, perhaps you are concerned with the mistreatment of animals and want to do something about it. What's one small step you could take to move toward helping resolve this problem? You might seek work at your local dog pound or write articles about the issue, to spread the word.

Notice, how solving a problem could offer a clue to your passion and purpose, because this is something you care about from the heart.

3) Fulfillment: Looking back through your life, what's been the most satisfying thing you've ever done? What have you been proud of? What made it so fulfilling? Perhaps you enjoyed writing poetry, working with children, gardening, etc. Write 1-2 paragraphs or jot down a few notes about what made you happy and feeling fulfilled? Notice where your energy lies. For example, when you think of a specific moment do you feel your energy rising or does it fall flat? Noticing your energy level is a great way to lead you to your passion and purpose.

Finding work that fulfills your most inner desires takes patience and courage. Patience to sift through all of the "yeah, buts" that hold you back and the courage to take bold steps toward making it happen. Make the effort to find what you love to do and then explore the possibilities for a satisfying life and/or career.

"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world."
