4 Steps to Living to Your Greatest Potential

Updated: Jan 18, 2022

Do you find yourself playing small and hiding from being your greatest self? Do you sometimes feel lost and wonder what in the world you're doing? Do you feel stuck as if you're living life on a constant treadmill not really going anywhere?

If you answered yes, to any of the questions above, perhaps it's time for a quick confidence boost. It's time to take a look inside and remind yourself what amazing traits you already possess.

Because you are human, you have access to all possible human traits. Some traits you use more often than others. Below are 4 steps you can take to tap into the traits that will make yo shine.

Step One: We often have role models, people we admire that show us the personality traits we would like to express. Doing a bit of investigating to find out what it is about these individuals that inspires us, can give us insight into what we want to strengthen in ourselves. Please allow some quality time to answer the following questions:

Who are your top 3 role models? Who do you admire? They can be real or someone you imagine. They can be someone you know or don't know. They can be a movie star, a character in a book, or someone from history. Please list your top three role models below:

1_____________________ 2____________________ 3______________________

Step Two: For each of your role models named above, make a list of the characteristics that you most admire about them and why. For example, you may admire the leadership and persistence of Eleanor Roosevelt because she courageously stepped into leading the United Nations based on her strong convictions regarding human rights.

Be sure to list as many traits as possible for each person and why each trait is important to you. Click here for a downloadable list of personality traits to help compile your lists.

Step Three: Look over your lists of traits. Perhaps there are some you already express. Put a star next to those traits you already have. Next, circle those traits you would like to embody. What could you do to strengthen these traits within you? In what ways can you bring these traits into your everyday life?

Think how you could adapt your role models' traits into your own life. I could...

1. ___________________________________________

2. ___________________________________________

3. ___________________________________________

4. ___________________________________________

5. ___________________________________________

6. ___________________________________________

Step Four: Finally, what one specific trait will you take action on today?

I will strengthen my ability to be (e.g., charitable) _____________________ by (e.g., volunteering at a local food bank) _____________________________________________.
